Retro Deck

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 July 2026

The short version

Retro Deck is an offline music player. It plays the audio files already on your device and does nothing else with them. The app collects no personal data, transmits no data, and cannot connect to the internet — it does not request the internet permission, so the operating system will not allow it to make a network connection. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no trackers. Nothing you do in the app leaves your device.

This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what Retro Deck ("the app", "we", "us") does and does not do with information. It applies to the Retro Deck Android application published by Ilija Injac.

1. Information we collect

None. Retro Deck does not collect, record, transmit, or store any personal or usage information about you. We have no servers, no database, and no way to receive information from the app, because the app has no network access.

Specifically, the app does not gather your identity, contacts, location, advertising identifier, device identifiers, listening history, search terms, or any diagnostic or crash data.

2. What the app does not do

3. Permissions the app uses, and why

Retro Deck asks only for what it needs to play your music. Each permission is used solely on your device for the stated purpose.

The app does not request the internet, location, camera, microphone, contacts, phone, or Bluetooth permissions.

4. Where your information lives

Everything stays on your device. Your music is read from your device's own media library. Playlists ("mix tapes") that you create are saved as an ordinary file in the app's private storage on your device. This data is never sent anywhere and is removed if you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.

5. Bluetooth and Android Auto (playing in your car)

When you connect your phone to a car or other device over Bluetooth, or use Android Auto, Android's own media system streams the audio and shares standard "now playing" information — the track title, artist, album, and cover art — with that device so it can be shown on the car's display and controlled from the dashboard or steering wheel. This is handled by the Android operating system and the connected device, not by a network connection, and no information is sent to us or to any third party. How the connected car or head unit handles that information is governed by that device and its manufacturer, not by Retro Deck.

6. Cover art

So that the correct cover art appears on your car's screen and in the playback notification, the app includes a component that supplies an image for the track being played: the cover art embedded in your own music file, or, when a file has none, a built-in Retro Deck cover image. This component only ever provides image data for on-device music and never transmits anything off the device.

7. Third parties

There are none. Retro Deck shares data with no third parties because it collects none and has no means of transmitting any. We do not use third-party advertising, analytics, payment, or hosting providers within the app.

8. Children's privacy

Retro Deck is suitable for users of all ages with respect to privacy, because it collects no personal information from anyone, including children. We do not knowingly collect data from children because we do not collect data at all.

9. Your rights

Privacy laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) give you rights over personal data that a company holds about you — for example, to access, correct, delete, or port it, and not to have it sold.

Because Retro Deck collects and holds no personal data about you, there is no personal data for us to access, disclose, correct, delete, port, or sell, and no data processing to object to or restrict. We do not sell or share personal information, and we never have. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to contact us using the details below.

10. Data security

Because your information never leaves your device, it is not exposed to the network-based risks that affect connected apps. On-device data is protected by Android's standard application sandbox, which keeps each app's private files separate from other apps.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds a feature that affects it — we will post the updated policy at this address and revise the "Effective date" above. Material changes will be reflected before the affected version of the app is made available. If a future version were ever to collect or transmit any data, that would be disclosed here and in the app's Google Play Data safety section before release.
